Robeson County Sheriff’s Office on scene of helicopter crash

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a helicopter crash near Pembroke.

According to a Facebook post by the department, Sheriff Burnis Wilkins confirms deputies are working a death investigation that involves a helicopter crash in the 1900 block of Philadelphus Road.

The Sheriff’s Office says more information will be released later.

UPDATE (7:55 p.m.):

Officials with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the helicopter was a home built Mosquito XEL ultra light helicopter.

When crews responded to the scene, human remains were discovered in the helicopter.

Officials say the remains will be sent to the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the identity and the cause of death.
