Rocky Point man facing charges after assaulting WPD officer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Rocky Point man is facing multiple charges after he assaulted a Wilmington police officer.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 400 block of Mosley Avenue for a window tint violation on Sunday around 5:30 p.m.
The driver, Travis Crews, 46, became hostile and aggressive toward the officer who was able to detain him and place him under arrest.
Police say while on the way to the station, Crews attempted to kick out the patrol car window, resulting in the officers stopping the vehicle in an attempt to stop him from harming himself or others. While WPD officers were attempting to restrain him, Crews grabbed the leg of one of the officers causing injuries. Crews then began spitting on officers before they were able to safely transport him to the station.
He is charged with Assault on Law Enforcement Officer, Malicious Conduct by Prisoner, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, No Operators License and Window Tint Violation. He is being held at the NHSO Detention Center without bond.
