Rodeo returns to Boys and Girls Homes in Lake Waccamaw after a decade
LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — After nearly 10 years, the rodeo is returning to the farm at the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina this weekend.
It is happening at the Benton/BTS Exhibition Center on Friday and Saturday Aug. 17 and 18. This event used to happen every year, sometimes twice a year, but has not happened in years.
Organizers said the community is ready to see it come back and it has been the talk of the town.
Thomas Linton Rodeo is the stock contractor for this event. That means it will include top riders participating in bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, breakaway roping and bareback riding.
Linton, a former champion calf roper, will also be entering the competitive arena.Champion rider Heather Sherrill barrel racing. The rodeo will also include entertainment by two-time Professional Cowboy Association Rodeo Clown of the Year Jake Wilcox and his bull Hank.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. with competition beginning at 8 p.m.
Admission is $12 each night with children 6 and under admitted for free. All proceeds benefit the children of Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina.
