Ryan may have more criticism of Trump
WASHINGTON (AP) – You may not have heard the last of the criticism of Donald Trump from House Speaker Paul Ryan.
An aide to Ryan says the speaker told House Republicans today that he will continue to criticize Trump when necessary.
But Ryan reaffirmed his support for Trump at today’s closed-door meeting. That’s according to a lawmaker who was there.
Ryan endorsed Trump last week after initially withholding his support. And he’s taken issue with Trump’s comments about an American-born judge whose parents were from Mexico.
New York Rep. Chris Collins says Ryan opened today’s session by telling lawmakers that he remains comfortable backing Trump. Collins said “there was no controversy in the room” over the comments, but no applause, either.
