Saffo gets no challenger for mayor
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Election Day is still more than three months away, but it looks like Bill Saffo will win a fifth full term as Wilmington mayor.
When the filing period for candidates in the November 3 municipal elections ended today, Saffo’s was the only name on the list for the Port City’s top office. Saffo was appointed mayor in July 2006 after Spence Broadhurst stepped down. Saffo won reelection in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
Meanwhile eight candidates have filed for three open spots on Wilmington City Council. Neil Anderson and Margaret Haynes are seeking their second four-year term. They will face Hollis Briggs, Deb Hays, Paul Lawler, Frank Madonna, John Presswood and Alvin Rogers in November.
