Salette Andrews discusses running for county commissioner for the first time since announcing her campaign
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Councilwoman Salette Andrews spoke with WWAY for the first time since announcing her campaign to run for County Commissioner next year earlier this month.
Andrews was elected to the City Council in 2023, with her term lasting until 2027.
She plans to focus on issues like a lack of affordable housing, healthcare, and transportation.
She began her career in public service as a City Councilwoman in Arizona before moving to Wilmington.
She said she’s always pushed to get people more involved in local government and politics.
“I’ve worked hard to increase public participation in Wilmington and I’d like to continue that with, with New Hanover County, trying to encourage people, encourage more people to run for office,” Andrews said. “I’ve increased the number of speakers at call to audience.”
If elected, she would have to resign from the city council, which would then appoint her replacement.
Two County Commissioners’ seats will be open next year, with Rob Zapple and LeAnn Pierce seeking re-election for those seats.
