Santa’s house demolished in Carolina Beach, new one to come

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The man known as Santa in Carolina Beach is one step closer to getting a new home.

Three weeks ago, the community started raising money to help the island’s icon get a new house, because his was falling apart. Organizers said the community has raised $55,000 so far.

Many watched as one of the oldest houses on Pleasure Island came down this morning. It was a bitter sweet goodbye for the man known as Santa or Harry who calls this home.

“There are no words to explain,” Harry said.

This is just the begging of a very bright future for him after the community came together to give him something better. Sarah Zachary and her daughter are the ones who started the fund raising. Zachary and her mom were there right by Harry’s side to watch it happen.

“I’m so used to just seeing him hanging out on his porch and I’m extremely excited that he’s finally going to have a home that he can live in sufficiently,” Zachary said.

“Thank you so much to everyone,” Harry said.

Organizers said the goal is to be able to give Harry a new house by Christmas, because he is known to so many as Santa.
