Satellite Bar and Lounge re-opens after fatal incident

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– A Wilmington bar that has been closed for the last week, after an alleged drunk driver struck and killed a man in the parking lot, reopened on Tuesday night.

More than a dozen people were at Satellite Bar and Lounge with drinks being served and a DJ playing music.

The mother of the victim — 31-year-old Alec chambers — was also there meeting with bar patrons.

Wilmington Police say 34-year-old Michelle Masiello was driving a jeep and hit Chambers who was standing near the edge of the side parking lot. he died at the scene.

Masiello was charged with felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired. A funeral for chambers will be held on Friday. Friends have also created a petition to rename a Wilmington skate park in his memory, and more than 62-hundred people have signed it.
