SBA Admin. Kelly Loeffler visits Wilmington to tout Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler was joined by Representative David Rouzer for a trip to Wilmington on Wednesday.
Loeffler and Rouzer toured High Speed Welding, a local business that manufactures marine T-tops and truck racks.
The two were there to tout the Trump Administration’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Among many other things, the sprawling 1,000+ page piece of legislation cuts back on federal spending and makes President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent.
Loeffler says those cuts, and a handful of other provisions will help boost small businesses.
“If this tax bill expires from 2017, small businesses will see a doubling of their income taxes. Small businesses can’t sustain that,” she said. “This bill does so many things, accelerated appreciation. 100% appreciation in year one for capital investments and in R&D. That’s what this country needs.”
The bill has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats for its slashing of federal programs, and cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and other welfare safety nets.
When pressed on those concerns, Rouzer pushed back—saying only those who work should have access to health care.
“You’ve got 4.8 million people in this country who are perfectly able-bodied, have no dependents, are at home sitting on Medicaid. This requires him to work,” he said.
Another concern—even among some congressional Republicans—is that the bill could raise the deficit by $3.8 trillion dollars over the next decade, based on a projection from the Congressional Budget Office.
Such a rise could result in higher interest rates and inflation.
Rouzer feels that assessment is wrong.
“The CBO is hardly ever right. They were not right on Obamacare , they’ve not been right on any major piece of legislation,” he said.
Loeffler adding the only things getting cut are programs Trump and congressional republicans deem “wasteful.”
“We’re protecting needed programs, and we’re helping grow the economy,” she said.
