PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with a death investigation at a home in Hampstead.

A large law enforcement presence responded to a home in Olde Pointe community late Wednesday morning.

As of Wednesday afternoon, crime scene tape still surrounded a home on Sawgrass Road. According to online records, it’s the home of a former Pender County sheriff’s deputy.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office has released little information at this time.

Pender County District Attorney Jason Smith was also on the scene. He deferred to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office for a statement on the investigation. The sheriff’s office says more information will be released later.

Neighbor Dana Blacharski lives right across the street and said this was not the first time that law enforcement had been called to the house in recent months.

“There was SWAT that showed up, well first a bunch of cops and then SWAT came and they surrounded the house and they were out here for hours,” Blacharski said. “We were kind of standing outside watching but no one really gave us any information. And then I would say they were probably here about 4 hours and then they left and they said everything was fine. And then a few days later, they showed up again, SWAT and they were surrounding the whole house.”

A spokeswoman with the SBI says no one has been arrested in connection to the investigation.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
