SBI takes over Artis Bryant case

NORTHWEST, NC (WWAY) — Five years after a Brunswick County man disappeared, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
The Northwest Police Department announced the change during a news conference on Wednesday with the family of 70-year-old Artis Bryant, who disappeared from the city of Northwest in 2021.
Police Chief Jason Spivey said that after taking office in January, he reviewed Bryant’s case and became concerned about the amount of time that had passed without answers.
As a result, Spivey requested that the State Bureau of Investigation assume responsibility for the case.
He said the SBI’s resources and investigative expertise can provide a fresh look at the disappearance and potentially help bring answers to Bryant’s family.
“It means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to them. Again, like I said prior is, when you’re missing a loved one and you don’t have no answers, I feel like as a law enforcement officer that’s what we do, we try our best to work with our partners and as a totality and all the way around we want to give you those answers, we want to try our best to give you that closure and find this person,” said Spivey.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about Bryant’s disappearance to come forward.
