Fire chief says ‘tragic accident’ killed SC firefighter
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WPDE) — Few new details were released about the death of Conway firefighter Christopher Gene Ray during a Monday afternoon news conference.
Ray died on Sunday after being hit by a fire engine at around 3:30 p.m. while at the scene of a house fire on Hickory Circle in Conway, according to Chief Phillip Hendrick with the City of Conway Fire Department.
Hendrick called Ray’s death a “tragic accident” during the news conference.
“We are deeply saddened over the loss of one of our own last night, firefighter Christopher Ray. Firefighter Ray’s death was the result of a tragic accident while on the scene of a house fire on Hickory Circle in Conway,” Hendrick said.
