SC mother accused of disconnecting 13-year-old’s medical ventilator

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WOLO) — A South Carolina mother has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after being accused of disconnecting her child’s medical ventilator.

Sharma Ladile Harris, 37, was charged in the death of her 13-year-old.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating and said “the medical ventilator that was deemed necessary to assist with the child’s breathing functions.”

According to the arrest warrant, Harris disconnected the ventilator for about 10 hours on June 13, 2020.

She is currently behind bars at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
