Scott Braswell retires as Hoggard’s director of athletics
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Monday marked the final day of work at Hoggard High School for athletics director Scott Braswell. For the coach it was an emotional day, but a day he’s been looking forward to. Braswell gave up his football head coaching job with the Vikings about a year ago. On Monday he spend a good portion of his day saying farewell to his Hoggard family, but Braswell says he’ll be a familiar face at Hoggard athletic events. “19 years here, 18 years as the head football coach. I’ve been the AD for the past 8 years,” Braswell told WWAY on Monday. “It’s been a great experience, I have had a good time. Today is my 32nd year in North Carolina and I have had a great experience with it and I’m looking forward to this next chapter of life.”
Scott Braswell wants to be able to get his body back to the point where he can coach again. He stepped down as the Hoggard head football coach primarily due to health reasons about a year ago. Braswell’s doctors tell him that he’s currently cancer free. He underwent surgery in the fall of 2014 in order to remove a cancerous tumor in his lower back.
