Sea turtle hospital to release 5 turtles Thursday afternoon
SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Volunteers at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center will be releasing five turtles Thursday afternoon.
Organizers say it will happen across from the Surf City Fire Dept. on the beach in the 600 block of North Shore Drive at the intersection of Wilmington Ave. at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Organizers said Sweet Pea, Dandelion, Petunia, Redbud and sweet little Piglet. They said Sweet Pea is going to be a handful, because she is a big turtle.
Hospital Director Jean Beasley said they are continuing to celebrate our 20th year of rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing sick and injured sea turtles. She said more than 650 turtles have been released so far. She said they are celebrating those 20 years of partnership with the college of veterinary medicine, NCSU.
