Sea turtle patrol group urges caution on piers after endangered turtle found dead

An endangered sea turtle was found dead with a damaged jaw and a flipper wrapped in fishing line, according to the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol.

The group says the Kemps Ridley turtle, which is highly endangered, was found dead near Cherry Grove this past weekend.

Other than the damage that the group suspected came as a result of the nearby pier, the turtle “was in excellent shape and should not have died.”

They remind people to not pull a turtle in if it is accidentally snagged while fishing.
