Sea turtle release in Surf City on D-Day anniversary

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center is holding a sea turtle release Wednesday that commemorates the 74th anniversary of D-Day.

Allied Armed Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Two turtles will be released in honor of soldiers who fought in the invasion.

Blondie will be released in memory of Blondie Hasler, a member of the U.K. Royal Marines. Hutch will be released in memory of Ed Hutchinson, a member of the US Navy.

The release is set for tomorrow at the Wilmington Avenue beach access in Surf City.

If you want to watch, you should be there by 9 a.m. for the 9:30 release.
