Seahawk Club posts record membership numbers

WILMINGTON, NC (UNCWSPORTS.COM) — The UNCW men’s basketball team has some company in the record books.

The Seahawk Club, the school’s athletics fund-raising organization, has eclipsed 2,000 members for the first time, resulting in record contributions for student-athlete scholarships. Overall, 2033 members donated during the 2016 calendar year, an increase of more than 200 from one year ago.

“We’re very pleased with these membership increases and are grateful to the Wilmington community and others who are supporting our program,” said Jimmy Bass, UNCW’s athletic director. “It’s critical that we continue to grow our fund raising efforts to support our student-athletes in their quest to compete for championships.”

Membership in the Seahawk Club has grown nearly 30 percent over the past five years, climbing from 598 members in 2012 to 2,033 in 2016.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment that could not have happened without the continued support of our Seahawk faithful,” said Derek Denton, executive director of the Seahawk Club. “Hitting 2,000 members for the first time is a great commitment from our UNCW community and we look forward to even more success in 2017.

“We appreciate all of our Seahawk Club donors for allowing us to provide a memorable experience to all UNCW student-athletes.”
