Seahawks need OT to get back to winning ways
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Denzel Ingram made 8 of his 17 points in overtime as UNCW slipped by College of Charleston 59-55 on Saturday night.
UNCW (21-6, 13-3 Colonial Athletic Association) outscored the Cougars 10-6 in the extra period.
Trailing 29-21 at the break, Charleston rallied to take a 47-42 lead with 5:29 left. Jordon Talley drilled a 3-pointer and C.J. Bryce had a layup to tie at 47. Charleston’s James Bourne made a layup for a 49-47 lead with 2:49 remaining. Chris Flemmings made two free throws to tie with 40 seconds left.
The Cougars (16-11, 8-8) had a chance for the win in regulation but Payton Hulsey missed two free throws with 13.8 seconds remaining.
The Seahawks, who had won 11 consecutive before losing to William & Mary 87-69 on Thursday, remain 1.5 games in front of Hofstra (19-8, 11-4) in the conference standings. Hofstra and UNCW will face off on Thursday.
