Search warrant filed as more alleged victims come forward in adoption scam
At least fifteen people have now come forward, claiming to be victim’s of a nationwide adoption scam centered in Carolina Beach.
Police arrested Wendy Jenkins George nearly two weeks ago.
She allegedly contacted them to adopt her unborn child.
According to the warrant, victims rented hotels for George and organized travel for her doctor’s appointments.
She also allegedly received money orders.
Heidi Bessert says she was suspicious and looked into it.
She says she even received texts from George asking her not to call the police so she wouldn’t have the baby in jail.
“She gave me her real last name of George and I started doing some research online. Actually, I spoke with a lawyer and he said that he felt like it was a scam to him and he said do some research.”
Carolina Beach police are still investigating.
