'Undefeated' a winner with fans

The winner of the 2011 Academy Award for best documentary "Undefeated," was on the big screen at CFCC Schwartz Center Thursday night. "Undefeated" chronicles the struggles of the Manassas Tigers of Memphis, as they attempt a winning season after years of losing.

EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: Street musician brightens downtown with smooth sounds

video As the sun sinks down over downtown Wilmington, sweet sounds swing up and down Front Street. At the mouthpiece is saxophonist Glen McRae. "It’s about joy, gets the mess out of the world sometimes," McRae said. McRae takes his place on the street stage every day, collecting tips from passersby who may be out shopping or to get a bite to eat. But while many may hear his bright tones, what they may never hear is hi past near fatal battle with alcoholism.

videoConference championship tournament night is in the books. The New Hanover boys won a tournament title, along with the Laney girls, the East Columbus boys, the East Columbus girls, the Whiteville boys and the Whitevile girls. State playoff action will start on Monday.

WWAY's Monday night sports - Feb. 18

videoJimmy Fletcher has been named the new director of athletics at West Brunswick High School. Current athletics director John Floyd recently announced his retirement effective March 1. Monday marked the first night of conference tournament play in high school basketball. Player of the week honors for CAA basketball go to two different UNCW players: Keith Rendleman and Karneshia Garrett.

videoOn Friday night the Mideastern Conference took a back seat on the Full Court Press. We still had lots of high school hoops. In fact Friday was the final night of the 2012-2013 regular season. We showcased games from the Waccamaw Conference, Tri County Conference and Three Rivers Conference along with independent schools playoff action.
