Second annual Battle of the Badges returns next week
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — It’s time to roll up your sleeves for some healthy competition.
The American Red Cross will host its second annual Battle of the Badges next Thursday August 29th.
People who want to donate blood can choose between the Wilmington Police Department or the Wilmington Fire Department- both hoping to win bragging rights.
This event is fun and competitive in nature but the true purpose has a greater cause.
There is a national blood shortage meaning that every donation can help save a life.
Lieutenant Greg Willett is a spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department and shares who he thinks will be the winner.
“We have fun doing it. The police and fire department work hand in hand on calls we go to and we have the same end goal which is public safety. This kind of ties in with that on somewhat of a deeper level so it’s a friendly competition but in the end… the people that need the blood win,” said Willett.
To sign up to donate go to the American Red Cross’s website.
Enter ILM BADGES as the sponsor code and the drive’s appointments will appear.
