Seeking Answers: the disappearance and death of Anna Walker

CAPE FEAR REGION, (WWAY) — 29-year-old Anna Walker disappeared last October. She was later found dead at Smith Creek Park in the northern portion of New Hanover County.

WWAY sat down with Anna’s mother to learn more about Anna’s life and death—and why she is speaking out now.

Anna’s mother, Teresa Walker, said she last saw Anna on the October 27, 2023. Anna’s body was found on November 25.

“Time is of the essence,” Walker said.

She said the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is handling her daughter’s case and despite their hard work, there are still a lot of unanswered questions, and a lot of loose ends.

Between the time of Anna’s disappearance in October and her body being found being at Smith Creek Park in late November, her car had been towed from a location near New Centre Drive in Wilmington. Her purse was found elsewhere, and her keys were found in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Hunt Club Rd. in Wilmington.

“It was all quite alarming needless to say,” Walker said. “It did not prove well for her at all. So, we just take it day by day.”

She said she is still awaiting autopsy results for her daughter and hopes the community can help.

Friends of Anna have created a social media campaign called “Justice for Anna” in hopes of finding answers to those questions.

“We don’t feel Anna had to die that weekend, something went terribly wrong,” Walker said.

She said she and Anna’s dad are still adjusting to life without their daughter around. She said she knows that’s going to take some time but getting answers about Anna’s disappearance and death will help them find closure.

“It goes on and on and on. You relive every day,” Walker said.

WWAY reached out to the detective handling this case. He said the sheriff’s office currently has no leads and no new information to share.

They’re asking anyone with information to contact them.
