Senator Lee meets with teachers and students at Murray Middle

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — State Senator Michael Lee was at Murray Middle School on Monday, talking about education with students and teachers.

Lee spoke to teachers of different grade levels about pay, funding, and curriculum. He answered their questions and listened to concerns about issues they are faced with on a daily basis.

Some said opportunities like these present a chance for their voices to be heard.

Lee also spoke with students about concerns related to their public education opportunities as a part of an advocacy project.

“Whenever I go to a school, talk to teachers, talk to students that forms that bank of knowledge that I bring back with me to Raleigh so that when we are making these decisions we are having better exposure to the practical impact that are occurring on the ground, in the classroom for teachers and for students,” Lee said.

He discussed with students the importance of advocating for issues, whether they are for or against something, and how to have a conversation with peers to work out differences.
