Several Cape Fear communities receiving millions in funds from state for water-related projects

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Communities statewide will receive more than $238 million in water and wastewater infrastructure funding and stormwater planning grants to help pay for 114 projects.

Columbus County is on the list of recipients, with the City of Whiteville getting up to $6.8 million, including $1.5 million in principal forgiveness, for replacement and rehabilitation of gravity sewer and upgrades at two lift stations. Tabor City is getting $1 million for Water Supply Well Improvements.

Bladenboro is receiving $150,000 for Wastewater Asset Inventory & Assessment.

Rocky Point has received $400,000 for a PFAS Treatment Alternatives Study.

Bald Head Island’s SW LASII Planning project is getting $350,000.

CFPUA in New Hanover County has received $35 million for Southside WWTP Replacement and Capacity.

“This funding will help communities across the state access clean drinking water and set up critical infrastructures to better prepare for the future,” said Governor Cooper. “We have seen the positive impact these grants have made, and it is important for us to continue to provide more aid, especially for communities dealing with the impacts of forever chemicals.”
