Several New Hanover County schools affected by water alert

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Several schools in northern New Hanover County are receiving bottled water this morning, after Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued a “do not drink the water” alert.

CFPUA water from the Richardson Nanofiltration Groundwater Treatment Plant showed high levels of flouride, which can make you sick.

The schools affected are:

  • Blair Elementary
  • Eaton Elementary
  • Laney High
  • Holly Shelter Middle
  • Castle Hayne Elementary
  • Murrayville Elementary
  • College Park Elementary
  • Wilmington Early College High School
  • Trask Middle
  • Southeast Area Technical High School

NHCS is delivering bottles of water and hand sanitizer to all the aforementioned schools, and parents have been alerted through the automated phone system.

The school district will provide updates when the situation changes.
