Lockdowns lifted at several schools after reports of suspect with gun

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A lockdown issued for several schools early Thursday has been lifted, according to a New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman.

The lockdowns came after reports of a caller seeing someone with a gun in a parking lot near Ashley High School before 8 a.m.

Ashley High School, Murray Middle School and Anderson Elementary were all on lockdown for a little less than an hour. A New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said deputies were searching for a suspect in the area.

According to robocalls from Anderson Elementary, testing that was supposed to happen Thursday has been postponed until Friday.
