Shaking and shagging in the sun at annual Carolina Beach Music Festival

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It was the perfect beach day Saturday and thousands took advantage of the nice weather to listen to beach music down on Pleasure Island.

The 31st Annual Carolina Beach Music Festival was held in front of the boardwalk.

Three live bands offered a laid-back style of rhythm and blues with deep roots in the Carolina coast.

It was no surprise that tons of people were shagging along as many say the Carolina shag began right in Carolina Beach.

“I’ve always loved live music and having the live beach music right out on the ocean front where we can just dance in the sand and jump in the ocean, it’s just fabulous.” Shagger Kristal Adams.

Bernie Braak has been coming to the beach music festival for several years and he says his favorite part is the “comradery, beer, and bathing suits.”

The event is one of the longest running beach music festivals in the country.
