Shallotte River Swamp Park opens
OCEAN ISLE BEACH (WWAY) — The Shallotte River Swamp Park is now open after months of construction and a few weather delays. The park includes a zipline tour, aerial park and swamp boat eco-tours.
Rube McMullan, park owner, says this park has created jobs and is a potential boost of the area’s economy. But he says most importantly the park will get people back in touch with nature.
“Kids today live a different kind of life, so orderly, so organized, they really don’t have a chance to understand what’s going on in the real world, so our mission here is to try to serve as an education venue for folks to learn about nature,” McMullan said.
Fifty people were hired to work at the park. They are specially training in outdoor activities. McMulllan says they estimate the park will have around 50,000 visitors a year.
