SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WWAY) – In the first ever game for the Oak Island Loggerheads, the Shallotte Shallywags dominated in a 17-2 win in five innings.

The home team trailed 2-1 in the 2nd. That was when UNCW’s Mason Hughes hit a sac fly to tie the game.

It was all Shallotte after that. RBI’s from Ryan Yaroshuk, Tate Morris and Jude Morton paved the way for an offensive explosion and a 2-0 start to their franchise’s history.

“We found a way to win last night. We made it close, but tonight we knew we needed to come in here and when we had the chance, we needed to put them away. The bats were hot, but that’s what we wanted when we came here on their opening day. It makes it even better.”

The two teams will face each other again on Wednesday.
