Shane Handy retires as West Brunswick’s head football coach

SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WWAY) — In an offseason that already saw three head coaches for Carolina Coast football teams step down, add one more to the list.
West Brunswick’s Shane Handy tells WWAY his is retiring from coaching and teaching come May after more than three decades in the professions.
The Trojan’s saw tremendous growth during Handy’s three seasons at the helm as the program went from one win to three, followed by seven last season.
West Brunswick joins Laney, Ashley and Topsail as conference rivals who will have a new leader in 2026. Unlike the others, the Trojans had a succession plan in place.
Defensive Coordinator Aaron Powell will take over the program in a transition Handy says the two have been talking about for some time.
