Shelter-in-place lifted at West Pender Middle School following report of nearby gunshots

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — West Pender Middle School was briefly placed under a shelter-in-place Thursday morning after reports of gunfire in the surrounding area, according to Pender County Schools.
District officials said the Pender County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly and determined there was no threat to the school. The shelter-in-place was lifted after deputies gave the all clear, and normal operations have since resumed.
“At no time were students or staff in danger. All students are safe,” Pender County Schools said in a statement.
