Sheriff’s Office called out for military ordnance found at metal recycling plant

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — In New Hanover County, deputies were called out to OmniSource, a metal recycling plant on Highway 421 around 11:00 this morning. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jerry Brewer said an employee found a military ordnance in the metal they were sorting.

Brewer said the ATF was called out and they deemed the ordnance non-explosive before taking it off site.

Brewer adds they did not have to shut down the highway, but did evacuate nearby businesses as a precaution.
