ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —  The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is using new facial reconstruction technology in hopes of identifying a woman whose skeletal remains were found more than three decades ago.

On Dec. 2, 1991, hunters discovered the remains in the Bear Creek area near Stewart Point Road. Investigators believe the woman died in late fall or early winter. At the time, detectives received a composite image of what the woman may have looked like based a scientific reconstruction of the skull.

According to the sheriff’s office, forensic evidence indicates the woman was white, between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-2 in height, and had a slight build. She was wearing a heavy crew-neck sweater, dark gray or brown in color; blue slacks with an elastic character underneath; pantyhose or a leotard; and white slip-on shoes with small white bows. Some clothing labels recovered included “Necessary Objects Limited” and “1045 Paris.”

Detectives also said the woman had a spinal fusion at the C2/3 region and signs of degenerative bone disease in her neck.

Anyone with information that could help identify the woman is asked to contact Captain David Evans at 910.989.4010 or david_evans@onslowcountync.gov, or contact Crime Stoppers at 910.938.3273.
