CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — SkyWatch Bird Rescue is looking for game meat donations after a rare intake.

On Friday, four nestling barn owls arrived after their nesting site has a predation problem.

They were nest on a hunter’s deer stand. After consulting with the rescue, the hunter removed the surviving four.

The rescue says they’re working with the hunter to put up replacement nest boxes for next season.

Raptors are some of our most expensive birds to raise, and each of these owlets will cost us approximately $1,500-1,900 to rear the rescue says.

Aside from fish, the rescue says game meat is one of their most ongoing needs especially in the winter. SkyWatch Bird Rescue encourages hunters or anyone with unwanted game to drop it off for the owls.

Donations can be dropped off anytime on our front porch at 3600 Lynn Avenue in Castle Hayne.
