Small businesses step up to help flood victims
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) — Several small business owners are stepping up and volunteering their resources to help flood victims.
Flying Heart Brewing is offering a new seasonal beer.
“It was something we were planning on rolling out anyway,” said part owner Jason Lebleu, who explained the drink now has a special purpose. $1.00 for every pint sold will be donated to flood victims.
Lebleu says the owners of the brewery want to help their community out.
“I mean good grief, it’s the same community, same folks, we work and play with all of these people,” he said.
They are even collecting physical donations at their brewery. They are collecting Gatorade, water, bug spray, prepackaged food and garbage bags.
The brewery isn’t the only small business getting involved in flood relief efforts, Mainstreet Self Storage in Shreveport is too. Cindy Delaney is the owner of Main Street Self Storage. Her business is donating storage space to flood victims through September.
“We just felt like it was the right thing to do,” said Delaney.
One family has already taken them up on their offer.
“We have the space, we want to help have a nice secure place for now,” said Delaney.
Even members of a Shreveport gym got involved, volunteering their time to help sandbag and move furniture in a flooded neighborhood.
“I just made a post on Facebook saying if they wanted to get a workout in, they might as well get our workout in doing some good things for people,” said Peak Physique Gym owner Jason Grantham, who explained about 20 gym members showed up to help.
All of the business owners agree they are grateful to be in a position to help out their community.
