Small group gathers at police headquarters to say ‘Thank you’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A small group of people gathered outside of Wilmington Police Headquarters this morning to say thank you to officers.
“We are thanking our local police officers and really all the police officers in the country for what they do every day for us citizens,” Dave King said. “They put their lives on the line, and they are being judged for making split-second decisions where their lives are at stake.”
In light of recent events, King said he and a group of four friends wanted to show their gratitude for law enforcement.
The group got to police headquarters at 8 a.m. At one of the entrances they waved flags, held signs and yelled, “Thank you,” to passing patrol cars.
They say they were overwhelmed by the officers’ responses. From hugs, to cups of coffee, they said officers were thankful for their support.
“I knew that they would smile and wave at us, but I certainly was not expecting this kind of response,” King said. “It just goes to show what we consider a little gesture means so much to other people.”
