Smoke Alarms Installation Rally sets out to save lives

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The American Red Cross and the Wilmington Fire Department have teamed up to spread smoke detector education throughout Wilmington.

Today the Smoke Alarms Installation Rally gathered at the fire station on Princess Place. Volunteers from around the area met to learn all the basics of installing the alarms before teaming up and heading out into neighborhoods to install alarms in homes that need them. The best part? It’s all free.

Organizers said getting the facts out there is one of the most important parts of protecting people in case of a fire emergency.

Not only were volunteers installing alarms, they were also talking with people about how often you should replace them, where the best locations to place them are, and how to check to make sure they are still working.
