Smoke testing in Carolina Beach starts Thursday

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Carolina Beach will start smoke testing on their sanitary sewer system from November 21st to December 13th.

This testing will be conducted in the blocks between Plymouth Avenue/Ocean Ridge/Goldsboro Avenue and Birmingham Avenue (north to south) and between Woody Hewett Avenue and Dow Road (east to west). The testing will also include the Central Business District and Boardwalk areas, as well as the North End streets from Oystershell Lane/800 block to the Boardwalk (north to south).

A special non-toxic smoke will be used in these tests. The smoke is manufactured for this purpose, leaves no residuals or stains, and has no effect on plant or animal life.

One important reason for the testing is that it helps locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. The smoke will also reveal sources of where storm water and other surface waters enter the sewer system.
