Soldier who died at Freeman Park was Bronze Star recipient

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — New details have been released about the soldier who died while camping over the weekend.

The body of Tania Dunbar, 40, was found by neighboring campers at Freeman Park Sunday morning. Authorities said she likely hit her head on the door handle of her truck and died overnight.

Dunbar was stationed at Fort Bragg and just returned from her fourth deployment. A Fort Bragg spokesperson said she returned from Afghanistan in June. Other deployments include two to Iraq (2009 and 2010) and Kosovo in 2002.

Dunbar was also a highly-decorated soldier. Awards and decorates include the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal. The Army said she is survived by her spouse and their two children.
