Son of Shallotte police chief faces DWI, drug charges

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) — The 29-year-old son of Shallotte Police Chief Rodney Gause faces charges of heroin possession and driving while impaired after he was stopped by a Sunset Beach police officer for driving erratically early Monday, according to the police chief.

Rodney Dean Gause, 29, of Shallotte, was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck on Georgetown Road near NC 904 at about 2:30 a.m. when the truck veered into the center lane, Sunset Beach Detective Joe Smith said.

The officer who stopped Gause found a small amount of heroin and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, Smith said.
