South Brunswick principal to accept new role with school district

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The fight to save a Brunswick County principal’s job is over, after she decided to move forward.

South Brunswick High School principal Dr. Vicky Snyder recently told parents and students the school board was considering either reassigning her or asking her to retire. That had many people upset and ready to battle with administrators over the plan.

Today Snyder decided to move on saying she is humbled and appreciative of the support she has received.

“The events of the past two weeks have allowed me the opportunity to engage in a great deal of personal reflection about what is truly important,” Snyder said in a statement released by a school district spokeswoman. “Without a doubt, this is our students. For this reason, I am reaching out to ask that we redirect our time and attention to them. We must remain focused on successfully bringing this school year to a close. This is a time of celebration as the Class of 2015 will walk across the stage and transition into the next phase of their lives.

“After graduation, I too will be transitioning into the next phase of my life. I have personally reached the decision that my contributions to the students in Brunswick County will be better served in a new assignment for the 2015-2016 school year,” she said.
Snyder said it is important for her supporters to understand that this is her decision and not one forced on her.
“Although my recent conversation with (Superintendent Les) Tubb was difficult, I am thankful for his honesty,” Snyder said. “Discussions about my new assignment are underway, and I am excited to continue my work in Brunswick County.”
Snyder’s job was expected to be discussed at a committee meeting yesterday, but because two board members were absent, the discussion was put off. It was slated to be on the table again at the board’s June 1 meeting.
Snyder has a year left on her contract. She is the highest paid principal in Brunswick County.
