South Carolina man arrested on murder charges

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A South Carolina man has been arrested in connection with the recent homicide in Whiteville.

According to the Whiteville Police Department, the victim has been identified as Terri Lashay Thompson who is a mother of two children.

When she didn’t show up to school Tuesday, the staff called for a welfare check.

The police found her dead inside her home.

Detectives from Whiteville and Horry County have arrested Anthony Sumpter, 52, early Thursday morning.

Sumpter is charged with murder and is being held at the Reuben Long Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to north Carolina.
