Southport Alderman Robert Carroll charged with DWI

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A member of the Southport Board of Alderman is facing multiple misdemeanor charges following an arrest in Boiling Spring Lakes on Saturday night.
Court records show Robert Patton Carroll, 38, was arrested for DWI, driving left of center, and exceeding a posted speed limit on Highway 133.
Court documents state that at the time of Carroll’s initial appearance, a magistrate noted an odor of alcohol, slurred speech, unsteadiness on his feet, and an admission to drinking.
Carroll was released early Sunday morning.
He is scheduled to appear in Brunswick County District Court on March 3.
