Southport Cares provides update on funds raised for Southport shooting victims

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Southport Cares, a local non-profit has an update on efforts to support those impacts by the mass shooting event from the end of September.
As of Monday, the organization collected $242,237.26 in donations. They’ve sent out $232,595.82 in checks to support 34 families, wounded patrons and impacted employees.
Approximately $5,095 has been used to support the activities and needs of the private survivors group.
100% of the donated funds go to the families of the deceased, the wounded, the impacted employees and funding the healing activities for the private survivors group.
The organization says they plan to have a final report at the end of the month, once the fundraisers have ended.
They say they are thankful for so many individuals and small businesses that raised money through sales of T-shirts, artwork or anything else that they could come up with to make a meaningful contribution.
