Southport closes entrance to city as curfew continues
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The City of Southport has closed entrance to the city as it continues to deal with the effects of Hurricane Florence. The news comes in an e-mail from City Manager Bruce Oakley.
Southport began a mandatory evacuation at 8 a.m. Wednesday. It also began a a citywide curfew at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Oakley says that curfew continues.
Southport Marina Manager Hank Whitley told WWAY yesterday that he was concerned about the impact of high tide last night and today. Whitley said this morning that the surge at high tide last night did not crest the marina’s bulkhead.
