Southport Police Department changes location
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — If you need to report a crime or conduct business with the Southport Police Department they are operating out of a new location.
It’s located at 1669-A N Howe Street.
The change has been a 2-year work in progress and came with a couple of delays. However, they are now fully operating out of their new 2,600 square-foot building.
They signed a 5-year lease, so they will be in this building temporarily.
Southport Chief of Police Todd Coring said he is optimistic about the change. Especially because they are now located on ground level.
“Well, we are excited, like I said, I think it more accessible to the public. We got complaints before, we were on the second floor, the parking lot at City Hall was harder to get in and out of. So, this is a pretty good location, good visibility, and we are on a single floor so you can walk right into our lobby and ask for assistance,” Todd Coring said.
One major change is due to the difference in the speed limit between the old location and new location people cannot drive their golf carts to the new location.
For now, if you need your golf cart inspected, go to City Hall and an officer will meet you there for inspections.
