Southport Police report scam complaints
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Southport Police say they have received several reports from residents about a couple of phone scams.
Police say the first is a Publisher’s Clearinghouse scam that claims the victim has won $950. To get it, though, the person has to send in $10,375 through UPS.
The other scam, police say, is a call from someone claiming to be with Duke Energy or Brunswick Electric. The caller tells the person who answers that they need to pay $1,000 or more or their power will be cut off.
Southport Police want to remind everyone to be cautious and vigilant of who they talk to and what they tell people. They remind you never to give out any personal information, especially over the phone.
