Southport selects Stuart Turille, Jr. as new City Manager

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) – Southport has named its new City Manager.
In a vote at a Special Budget Deliberation Workshop on May 17, 2024, the Southport Board of Aldermen voted to select Stuart James Turille, Jr. to be the new City Manager, succeeding Bonnie Therrien after 18 months of service.
A native of Virginia, Turille, Jr. will be joining the City of Southport Administration team after serving as County Administrator with Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
“The importance of a City Manager is indescribable,” says Southport Mayor Rich Alt. “I believe that Stuart is what Southport needs to continue making progress and I am excited that we are welcoming him to our administration.”
Turille, Jr. has been serving in municipalities and counties along the East Coast for over two decades, with experience including revenue generation and cost savings, strategic planning and economic development, and emergency management. Of those two decades, Turille, Jr. has spent a cumulative 12 years of service in the eastern and coastal areas of North Carolina.

Turille, Jr. and his family will be fully relocating to Southport and will reside within the Corporate City Limits.
Turille, Jr. will start in his new role as Southport’s City Manager on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
