Southport Strong fundraiser brings hundreds together in support
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — On Saturday in Southport the community rallied together for the Southport Strong Community Relief Fundraiser.
hundreds of community members came together in the Yacht Basin to help support those affected by last month’s shooting at American Fish Company.
At the event, there was live music, raffles, cold drinks and Southport strong t-shirts.
All of the proceeds went to Southport Cares, a non-profit that will distribute the money to the victims, families of the victims, and employees of the American Fish Company.
Tom Lott founder of Southport Cares says he was shocked by the number of people that showed up.
“But I think that’s what this community is about. I hate that this happened in this community but honestly there’s not a better community that can ban together and support the victims like this Southport community does,” Lott said.
The event kicked off with an anonymous $50,000 donation. Cape Fear Radio also matched the first $7,500 in donations.
